About the event

When I was growing up in Poughkeepsie, I often would hang out at my friend's house, Rich Baratta.  We started playing sports and then would drift inside and listen to his family's jazz albums.  By 7th grade we formed a band that continued to play through high school.  Among the jazz musicians that we listened to were Dave Brubeck, Charlie Parker and Art Blakey, all who would have been 100 years old this year.  Added to our friendship was Rich's cousin, Paul Rossman.  They have both gone on to great careers in the movie industry, while I hit the public school teaching scene.  Our enjoyment of hearing and creating great jazz music has stayed with us for over 50 years.  We will be joined by two players who I enjoy working with now in my not-so-youth years, Pete Einhorn and Rich Syracuse.  Great music brings great friendships back together.  And by the way, Lydia's has great food, so reservations are suggested. Hope to see you on February 29!
